When it comes to arranging furniture in your apartment,it’s sometimes necessary to get a little creative (and even to just throw the rule book out of the window every now and then). -Arrange the bedroom to make the most of your space. Here’s how to get the restful retreat that you crave. Your bed is the largest piece of furniture in your room so start with that. As a general rule, you have 2 choices for where to place the bed, either on the wall opposite your bedroom’s door which creates a pleasant view when you enter the room or along the room’s longest wall. Most bedrooms have at least one length of wall that isn’t interrupted by windows or doors. This gives you plenty of room to put a night stand on each side of the bed. The next consideration is your dresser which is usually the second largest piece of bedroom furniture. If you use a wide chest, it can also function as a tv stand. In this case, it make sense to place the dresser across from the bed for easy viewing. Once the largest furnishings have been placed, determine if you have space for more such as a bedside table or too which will add more storage in the surface for placing a lamp, clock and other bedside necessities. If you have extra space, consider a small desk and chair outfitted with a mirror for primping or office supplies for writing and filing. Place a small ottoman or bench at the end of your bed as a handy porch for sitting to put on shoes in the morning. To arrange your bedroom, consider door and window placement, the room’s dimension and the size of your furniture. Place the largest pieces first and then work in the smaller pieces to create a bedroom that is arranged to suit your space and needs.

Make a list of how you will use the bedroom. Sleeping is one obvious activity, but many people spend more time in their bedroom than just at bedtime. Will you watch television or read in your bedroom? Will you get dressed, put on makeup, or fix your hair in this room? Will the bedroom be for one or two people? Is it your bedroom or a guest bedroom? These things will tell you what furniture you need.

Often, bedroom furniture is purchased as a suite of multiple pieces — and you’ll find every blessed one of them crammed into many bedrooms, space notwithstanding. Pare down bedroom furniture and release living space by dispensing with the idea that a furniture suite cannot be separated. The extra tallboy or spare bureau can do good service in the entryway or hall, where it won’t cramp your style or your night’s sleep. “Mix and match” works as well in the bedroom as in the closet.

Determine if you have room for additional furniture. After placing these items, decide if there is room for other items. Also think about what other things you need in your bedroom. Do you need a desk to do work at? Do you want a chair to read and relax in? Finish off your bedroom by placing furniture that fits your needs. Place a desk with a chair in the room. You can buy a flat desk that fits along an empty wall space or under a window, or buy a corner desk that fits snugly in a corner and out of the way. Put ottomans at the foot of the bed for extra seating, or put a small armchair in the room for visitors to sit on, or you to relax in as you unwind. Place a mirror in the room. This can accompany a vanity, be placed with the desk, or just hung on the wall. Add bookcases. If you need shelf space for books, photos, and other belongings, place a bookcase along an empty wall. Create a seating area. In a small room, this can be something as simple as a stool or bench. In a large bedroom, you can have chair or a sofa for your seating area.
